When it comes to home and workplace security, everything might seem new and advanced. In reality, we have had security solutions for centuries, evidenced in the following gates from across the globe. While there are many famous gateways made of other materials, this article focuses on the beautiful designs that are designed for a protective purpose.

Read on to learn about four famous gates across the world.

The Gates of Paradise

Florence, Italy

Designed by Lorenzo Ghiberti, the doors were completed and installed in the late 15th century, and were later restored in the 21st century. They were originally designed for the north entrance of the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Florence. This pair of gilded bronze doors is not so much a gate in itself, but instead in what it depicts. Each door has five reliefs of scenes from the Old Testament. Michelangelo later called them ‘The Gates of Paradise’, which is how the name stuck.

The Graceland Gates

Memphis, Tennessee, USA

Elvis Presley’s mansion Graceland in Memphis is famed for its unique gates. They were installed around a month after the artist moved, and were designed purposefully to look like sheet music. Fans of the late musician travel to Memphis each year to view the gates and take pictures with it. The gates remain in their original space.

The Royal Gate of The Palace of Versailles

Versailles, France

Known for its almost glowing golden design, the replacement of the original gates of the Palace of Versailles have become a tourist attraction since their reinstallation in 2008. The originals were destroyed in the French Revolution. The new gate was a costly installation, as it is made of wrought iron and gold leaves.

The Melrose Gate at Paramount Pictures

Los Angeles, California, USA

One incredibly recognisable company name we see regularly is Paramount Pictures. The studios, based in Los Angeles, are widely toured and visited for its film history. Throughout the Paramount Pictures Studios, there are several famous gates and entrances. The Melrose Gate, however, is the one most recognised, as it currently acts at the main entrance to the studio lot. These can be visited in person, recognisable for their double arches and intricate designs.

What We Do

While we don’t habitually offer designs like the above, we can keep your business safe from intruders with beautiful yet high-quality modern gates. Our aluminium electric gates, for example, allow approved persons in with ease while keeping unwanted visitors out. We also offer CCTV installations, allowing you to keep an eye on what is happening at your property when you aren’t there.
